Peace and harmony are the natural state of both nature and human life. Where there is peace, there is happiness. Yet, we often see people who have name, fame, money, social status, and even good health but still feel restless and unhappy. This happens because peace is not only external; it is also internal. Material success alone cannot guarantee mental peace, and this is where spiritual wisdom becomes important.
According to ancient Indian philosophy explained in Science and Hinduism, human peace gets disturbed due to three major sources. The first source is divine or natural forces such as earthquakes, floods, storms, and other events beyond human control. The second source includes worldly and social factors like accidents, crime, unhealthy relationships, jealousy, lust, and emotional conflicts. The third source is adhyatmik or karmic disturbances, which arise from past actions (karma) carried from previous births.
Ancient rishis and sages deeply studied these causes of unrest and discovered the principle of “Trivaram Satyam”, meaning that which is sincerely said three times becomes true. Even today, repetition three times is used to create emphasis and certainty. For example, in courts, witnesses swear to speak “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
Based on this powerful principle, our sages advised chanting “Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti” to restore balance and peace in life. Each chant has a specific purpose.
The first “Shanti”, chanted loudly, is meant to calm unseen natural and cosmic forces.
The second “Shanti”, chanted softly, is directed toward our surroundings, relationships, and social environment.
The third “Shanti”, chanted in the lowest tone, is for the self, to heal inner fears, karmic burdens, and mental agitation.
This is why “Om Shanti” is recited at the end of a puja, aarti, or any Hindu ritual. It is a complete spiritual solution to bring mental peace, harmony, and balance on physical, emotional, and karmic levels.
From the perspective of Vastu Shastra and astrology, chanting “Shanti” thrice helps align energies, remove negativity, and create a peaceful vibration in both the mind and the living space. It reminds us that true peace begins within and then reflects outward into our homes and lives.
